Count not for Zero by ~BetaRick:iconBetaRick:

Count Not For Zero

Many men sweating in the heat
The Texans fear that they are beat
Bloodthirsty bayonets shinning in the sun
Rocks flying from the blast of cannon
The air is charged with rising tension
How many more can the Texans down
Many men taste blood in their mouths
Stubborn colonels give out resolved shouts
Who are wondering if this will just be remembered as a bout
Because what if it isn’t enough
The air reeks of sweat and choking death
The Texans are fighting till they reluctantly gasp their last breath
The Mexicans are charging
The end is coming
Santa Anna has a victory
But Texas will have one in twenty
Like the victory here for the foe
Texans will triumph under the cry of Remember the Alamo
As the Texans and their soul leaves their body
Thoughts pass through their minds faintly
Of dear ones lost and regretful thoughts
The battle has heard its last gunshots
The blood of many Texans stains the ground
The Texans might have lost, but many Mexicans lay downed
Remember the Alamo
For it did not count for zero

This is a poem about the Alamo. In case someone doesn't know what the Alamo is, it's a place in Texas where 183 Texans fought over 4000 Mexicans. Although the only survivors for the Texans where a soldier's wife, her daughter, and a slave, "Remember the Alamo" was the cry that the Texans said during the rest of the war.
